About Dungeons & Shakespeare

The world of Dungeons & Shakespeare exists in the space between two great traditions of storytelling — the stage and the table.

Shakespeare's plays were never just stories about their time. They were maps of the human condition: ambition and mercy, love and betrayal, the hunger for power, the weight of grief. D&D has always known this too. Every campaign is, at its heart, a tragedy or a comedy in progress.

Dungeons & Shakespeare doesn't adapt Shakespeare into D&D. It reveals what was always there: that Hamlet is a ranger with a vengeance oath, that Cleopatra is the highest-Charisma caster in the canon, that Macbeth is a fighter who rolled badly on Wisdom saving throws.

The show is live, unrepeatable, and driven by audience choice and dice rolls. Characters from different plays meet. Monsters from the Monster Manual appear in Shakespearean settings. Every show is a new campaign. Every campaign is a new play.

INTERACTIVE THEATER, ROLLED AND PERFORMED LIVE

Shelby Bond brings a one-person theatrical adventure to life where the audience decides what happens. Combining his love of Shakespeare and D&D, he creates a full-scale show where characters are drawn, dice are rolled, and the story unfolds in real time. Every performance is unique, and the audience is always at the heart of the action.

With more than 25 years of experience and training from London’s Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and The Second City in Los Angeles, Shelby delivers a complete theater experience all on his own. This one-person show gives audiences a full-scale, interactive adventure without the cost, crew, or complexity of a traditional production. It is easy to stage, engaging, and designed to attract younger and more diverse audiences while still offering a smart and high-quality night of theater.

— Ruth Oakley, Senior Festival Programmer, Southbank Centre

“A rambunctious audience of elves, fairies, gnomes, wizards and more was transported to another land, far away from any concern for modern life, as they watched the Dungeons & Shakespeare live show… encouraging us to lean into the welcoming atmosphere we found among our fellow outcasts.”

— Jaclyn Cosgrove, LA Times

“5 Stars! Comic genius! All the panache and clever wit of the best British comedy writers of the 20th century! It's unlikely that you'll laugh more at any of them.”

— Martin Christie, Edinburgh Evening News

“This is a show I could easily see myself going to twice or thrice. Dungeon Master Shelby Bond ushers the audience through an epic tale of Mercutios and monsters. The show is different every night and sure to please the D&D nerd in all of us.”

— Alexander Delorme, The Post Horn
